Blog 4: Jimmy´s Hall Review

Imagen
Hi all! I hope all is well and that you enjoyed our film! The film isn't my favorite, but it's a great film. The director, Ken Loach, is one my my favorite directors because he always makes movies about different political and social conflicts. I like how the film is almost like a direct continuation of The Wind that Shakes the Barley even though they were not made with that intention. It is a great perspective of the Irish post civil war era. I liked that the actors all have Irish accents, because it is different from the typical English that students hear in class. About Jimmy Gralton, he was a real person and the film is based on true events. My favorite character was obviously Jimmy hehehe. I think he is a great protagonist and he really cares about people and changing the world. He's my hero! One thing I didn't like about the film was that sometimes it was slow, but in overall I think it is a great film. My favorite scene is when they go to the cottage a...

Blog 3: The Wind That Shakes The Barley Review

Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed the film, "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" directed by Ken Loach. I love this film so much. I think it is beautifully made and is a very powerful film. I think it's genius to show the contrast of the revolutionaries of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the reformists through two brothers. The film is very dark and tragic, but I think it is also real because it shows the barbarism of imperialism, in this case of the British empire. My favorite characters are Damien O'Donovan, Sinear, and Dan. I like Damien because at first he was not sure to fight for the Irish Republic, but after he transforms and becomes a great revolutionary. Sinear, showed the importance of women in the Irish struggle since historically men and women played an important role. Dan was a great secondary character and was loyal to the cause until the end. What I don't like about the film is how long it is, but I understand that in order to tell the whol...

Blog 2: The best vacation or concert ever

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I am going to talk about the best vacation ever. In March 2014, I went to Puerto Rico with my mom and brother. We were there for about a week and it was so much fun. Although, We had travelled to Puerto Rico before, this time it was particularly fun and special. We visited our friend, Oriana, who is Chilean and has a gift shop in old San Juan city. She went to Puerto Rico after Pinochet's coup in 1973.  Some of the fun things we did were going to the movies, swimming in the ocean, and exploring San Juan city. There is a book store that I really like because in the United States I could never find books in Spanish and in this trip I bought books by Eduardo Galeano and Gioconda Belli.  I really like going to Puerto Rico because from the United States it is easy and cheap to visit and also I like how they mix Spanish and English together. Hurricane Maria devasted the island and many people died (before they said 64 and now it is almost 3,000!). Many towns w...

Blog 1: A country I would like to visit

Imagen
Brazil - A country that I would like to visit is Brazil. I have always wanted to go to Brazil, especially since I speak Portuguese and have a lot of Brazilian friends. Many of my friends live in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Porto Alegre. They all have invited me to come and visit them. If I go there someday, I think will go first to São Paulo because in picture it looks great and most of my friends are from there. People from there are called "paulistas" and people from Rio are called "cariocas." I honestly don't know much about the food there, but I know they have a lot of fruit that we don't have in Chile nor in the USA. If I had the chance, I would teach Spanish or English in one of the universities there. Maybe I could live there for a year, who knows. Brazil is a huge country and it would be fun to travel around there. Hopefully I will travel there one day! Hope you liked my first blog :) Now it's your turn:  Which country would yo...
